Deputies were called to 7-Eleven on Garrisonville Road Thursday evening, Feb. 1 for reports of a drunk driver, later identified as Lenard Lovick, Jr., the county sheriff's office said.
Deputies couldn't immediately find the offender, but it wasn't long before he stumbled out of the woods towards him.
Lovick said he had consumed three, 40-ounce beers prior to driving, but then changed his story saying a friend had given him a ride, police said.
A quick check of camera footage showed Lovick drive to a business, buy a 60-ounce beer, then run behind the business when he saw police arriving, the sheriff's office said.
Lovick’s level of intoxication made it impossible for officers to perform field sobriety tests, they said.
Officials soon found Lovick had five prior DUI convictions. His license was also discovered to be revoked due to those prior convictions. He was charged with sixth DUI offense with the previous offense being within five to ten years with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, as well as, second offense driving with a DUI related revoked license.
The legal BAC level is .08.
Lovick was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
